BET Issues Apology For Lil Wayne & Drake Performance

BET issued an apology over the controverial performance with Drake and Lil Wayne at the 2009 BET Awards.

Many who watched the show were appalled. The night was suppose to be filled with heartfelt tribute to the late Michael Jackson and a rap song that was irrelevant to the night was added.

The performance was right before Janet Jackson stepped onto the stage to thank the fans and everyone for support. Drake, Lil Wayne and other Young Money members performed, "Every Girl."

I felt that the performance was definatly out of place. Here is what BET had to say, “BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money at the BET Awards ’09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Gudda Gudda, and Mack Maine). Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened,” the network said in a statement. “We value and appreciate the feedback from our viewers and have edited Young Money’s performance from all BET Awards ’09 encore presentations.”

Drake spoke to Complex magazine and said, “I think what really happened at the BET Awards is with the passing of Mike, the climate really changed, as far as the award show goes. I don’t think it called for us to perform 'Every Girl' and 'Always Strapped,' and I think it was an award show filled with tributes and music and these genuine heartfelt speeches,” Drake said.
“It was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn’t planned like that.” He continued to say, “To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies; it wasn’t intended to offend anybody.”

Why didn't Drake refuse and say this isn't the right time to perform? Of course not, he wanted exposure.

The re-run of 2009 BET Awards will air again on Monday July 6. This time the show will be edited.

What did you think of the performance and were you upset it was apart of the show?
