Coldplay To Take A Break After Tour

Coldplay, led by frontman Chris Martin, want to revamp their sound before heading back into the studio to record the follow-up to their 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.

And guitarist Johnny Buckland hopes the hiatus will keep their fanbase from tiring of them.

Buckland says, "We ended up doing much more touring than we originally planned so there's no time to do proper justice to a new project. And anyway people may need a bit of a break from us.

"We're taking a little break and let's see where we get after that. We've got a lot of ideas but we want to find a new way to go and that may take some time."

Coldplay, Kings of Leon to Perform at Australian Wildfire Benefit

Kings Of Leon and Midnight Oil will play a benefit gig for the victims of the recent Australian wildfire in Melbourne - while Coldplay will play one in Sydney.

The Sound Relief gigs will take place on March 14, at the Melbourne and Sydney Cricket Grounds.

Wolfmother, Jack Johnson and Gabriela Cilmi are also set to play at the Melbourne event.

Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett has been Australia's environment minister since 2007. He said that the money raised would go towards helping the victims of the fire, to "give people affected by the terrible events what they dearly need".

Coldplay To Give Away Next Album For Free

Coldplay's Chris Martin has revealed the band are planning to release a live album for free this summer.

The band want to give the record away to fans as they attend their stadium gigs in September.

"What we want to do is try to give away a live album for free," Martin told The Sun.

The singer said that one idea behind the album was to provide respite to fans who are struggling with the current economic crisis.

"We're playing a lot of shows in the summer and I think what we would like to do is - bearing in mind the recession we are in - record the live album then give it as a gift," he added.

"We are just trying to work out how to do that. It's obviously a bit tricky in terms of record contracts and things but it would be great. Its a way of saying thank you. It's a tough economy and people are paying a lot of money for tickets.

"We are trying to work out a way that, when you hand your ticket in at the door, you get given the recording. It would be such a cool thing to do."

10. Rascal Flatts ($77.1 million). This good-time country trio is becoming a concert juggernaut, with $55.8 million on the road, $18.2 million in album sales and $3.1 million digitally in 2008. Average


9. Jonas Brothers ($77.9 million). The newest act to join the Ultimate Top 10 did almost equally well at the box office as at retail: $41.5 million worth of tickets, $30.4 million in albums and $6 million digitally. An average ticket price of $43.69 made theirs the least expensive ticket among Top 10 finishers.


8. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band ($79 million). This year, the Boss and the E Streeters pulled in $69.3 million on the road and, without a new album, added $8 million in catalog sales and $1.8 million in digital tracks. Average ticket price: $94.17.


7. Bon Jovi ($81.4 million). The New Jersey band posted another good year, with $70.4 million from 45 shows in 31 cities, plus $8.6 million in CD sales and $2.5 million in digital tracks. Average ticket price: $95.39.


6. Coldplay ($81.6 million). Although finishing sixth, Coldplay is in the enviable position of balancing its power in concert and at retail. About $40.8 million worth of concert tickets were bolstered with $35 million in CD sales and $6 million worth of 99-cent track downloads. Average ticket price: $79.87.


5. AC/DC ($82 million). The new “Black Ice” album took the veteran Australian hard rock band back to the top of the charts and also made its concert tour one of the year’s hot tickets. The band’s tally was almost evenly divided, with $37.5 million coming at the concert box office and $44.5 million from album sales. Like Kid Rock, AC/DC doesn’t do digital tracks. Average ticket price: $99.73.


4. Eagles ($90.7 million). The group might have taken the long road out of Eden, but it was pretty near paradise on the concert trail with the band’s take of $73.4 million. CD sales added $15.6 million and the veteran act notched $1.7 million worth of downloads. Average ticket price: $128.82.


3. Kenny Chesney ($95.7 million). This favorite son of Luttrell, Tenn., again proved the most popular country music act on the road last year, pulling in $72.2 million, and was the only artist to sell more than 1 million tickets in North America. Chesney sold $20.8 million worth of albums and $2.7 million in digital tracks. Average ticket price: $71.24. He’s up from No. 4 on last year’s list.


2. Celine Dion ($106.8 million). Dion posted her highest finish in a decade after ditching her residency at the Colosseum in Las Vegas for an old-fashioned, if high-tech, tour. She grossed $94 million, added $11.4 million in album sales and $1.3 million in digital tracks. Average ticket price: $119.00. Dion finished at No. 8 last year.


1. Madonna ($120 million). The Material Girl took in $105.3 million from touring, in addition to $14.8 million from music sales. It’s hard to decide what’s more impressive. The average gross at her shows, mostly in stadiums, was $5.5 million, and she drew about 36,000 people per show. Additionally, the average ticket price was $153.88, easily the highest among Pollstar’s Top 50 grossing tours. Worldwide, according to Pollstar, she amassed $281.6 million.

Coldplay To Perform At Grammys

Coldplay are set to play the 2009 Grammy's this February. The full lineup of performers is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

Coldplay have seven nominations and their 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' will battle it out with Lil Wayne for Album of the Year.

The 51st Grammy Awards air February 8th on CBS.

Lil Wayne Leads Grammys With 8 Nominations

Lil Wayne leads the nominations for the 51st annual GRAMMY Awards with eight nominations, it was announced Wednesday in Los Angeles. Coldplay earned seven nominations; Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, and Kanye West have six apiece; Jazmine Sullivan scored five nods; T.I., Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson, and Adele garnered four each.
Coldplay’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, Ne-Yo’s Year of the Gentleman, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand, and Radiohead’s In Rainbows will vie for Album of the Year.
Record of the Year includes Adele’s “Chasing Pavements,” Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes,” and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’ “Please Read the Letter.”
The Best Rap Album nominees are Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, T.I.’s Paper Trail, Jay-Z’s American Gangster, Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool, and Nas’ Untitled.


Winners will be announced on February 8, 2009 during the live ceremony held at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Coldplay was the hottest iTunes album download this year: Its “Viva la Vida” was crowned the best-selling album of 2008, while Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” was named the top-selling single.

Rocker Courtney Love has been completely honest with her daughter about her battle with drugs - even telling the youngster she took heroin during her pregnancy. Love openly admits taking a variety of illegal drugs while she was pregnant with 16 year old Frances Bean, her daughter with late husband Kurt Cobain. But the singer insists she didn't know she was expecting at the time. She tells British Elle magazine, "My daughter knows I did drugs in my first trimester of pregnancy. She weighed 7lbs 6oz when she was born and she was healthy."

Coldplay Heading For Splitsville??

Coldplay's Chris Martin has suggested that he plans to split up the band at the end of 2009. "I'm 31 now and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33," he said. "So, we're trying to pack in as much as possible. Up until the end of next year, we'll just go for it in every sense.
"I don't believe in time off. We've still got most of our hair, we can still fit into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that."

Chris Martin announced on the band's official website that Coldplay will be putting out a new EP, entitled Prospekt's March, in late November (Nov. 25 according to amazon.com). Also announced is the release of the single Lost! with collaboration by Jay-Z.

Dear Coldplay fans and friends,

First of all, thank you for the incredible year you have been giving us so far; from asking for our songs on the radio, to buying an album, to coming to a show; we owe you in a big way. As audiences you have been incredibly awesome to play for, and I might add that your singing has been in excellent form.
In the spirit of trying to do things a bit differently and keep everything fresh, we are going to do a few musical moves that we have not previously attempted. Firstly, in a few weeks we are going to release a version of Lost! which has a guest experience on it in the form of JAY-Z.
Then in November, we are happy to announce we are putting out an E.P. called PROSPEKT'S MARCH. It contains five songs that were not finished back in May(our deadline for Viva La Vida) but that have just been completed. They are: 

1. Life In Technicolor ii (which is a song)
2. Postcards From Far Away
3. Glass Of Water
4. Rainy Day
and
5. Prospekt's March

We are very proud of these and are pretty excited to release them. They have been the subject of many discussions and arguments; some might be considered too catchy or too heavy for Coldplay songs but in our minds they complete the VIVA LA VIDA picture. 

If you want to get the E.P. you can download it or order it from the internet or you can get it in a special edition of the album called "Viva La Vida: Prospekt's March Edition".
The version of Lost with JAY-Z on it will also be on this.
We really hope you enjoy it and we look forward to singing these songs with you in cities across the world.
