N.E.R.D., Jesse McCartney & Others To Perform During Final Four Weekend

N.E.R.D. and Jesse McCartney will perform at one of the free concerts during Final Four weekend in Detroit.

The NCAA and the local organizing committee announced Tuesday the final musical headliners for the event, which will take place Friday-Sunday, April 3-5, on the city's riverfront.

N.E.R.D. will headline Friday's concert, which will feature Jesse. Saturday's lineup features the Pussycat Dolls and Gavin DeGraw. On Sunday, "American Idol" star Ryan Seacrest will host the day's activities, including performances from Fergie, Staind and Gym Class Heroes

Gospel soul hoedowns, hip-pop radio nuggets, brassy ska rides, melodic narrative ballads: Just call Gym Class Heroes your Swiss Army band. United behind Travis McCoy, who rhymes like Eminem with an arts school degree, the band is reminiscent of everything but atypical of nothing. On sophomore effort "The Quilt," the act tops 2006's gold-selling "As Cruel As Children," conjuring Sublime one minute ("Blinded by the Soul"), Chris Brown the next ("Cookie Jar") and then reverently summoning Hall & Oates' Daryl Hall to contribute vocals ("Live Forever"). What Travis Has To Say...

Our previous post we told you Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes was arrested for hitting a person in the audience who called him a racial slur. Perez Hilton reported Travis' publicist released this...

“Somebody in the crowd was taunting Travis with racial slurs. Travis invited him
onstage with the intent of calling him out in front of the crowd, with
absolutely no intention of a physical altercation. When he tried to help him
onstage, the guy hit Travis in the knee area (which has been in a brace because
of a recent sprain), forcing Travis to defend himself. At this point, a scuffle
broke out.
This whole incident is unfortunate. Travis McCoy and Gym Class
Heroes are anything but violent. Their message is about racial unity and having
a good time. It’s amazing that in 2008 there are still people out there that
would say such ignorant things.
Travis is deeply upset that this happened,
and has expressed his apologies to the band's fans that were at the show, Kevin
Lyman, and the Vans Warped Tour. GCH is putting this behind them and looks
forward to seeing everyone on the rest of the tour.”

Gym Class Heroes Member Arrested

Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes was arrested Tuesday night in St. Louis on one charge of third degree assault. The group just finished their first song during a set on the Warped Tour when a black concert goer called the lead singer a "f---ing ignorant n----er." Security went to remove the person from the audience when Travis his him on the head with his microphone repeatedly. Travis then apologized for his violent behavior, "I'm sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone"

Travis was released early Wednesday morning on $500 bond.
