New Video: Orianthi - Highly Strung

Long before Orianthi had a smash single, an album burning up the charts, or a gig with the King of Pop, the then 15-year-old prodigy was opening for one of her heroes, the legendary guitarist Steve Vai, at a gig in her hometown of Adelaide, Australia. Since then the two have been close friends and collaborated on the track "Highly Strung," from Orianthi's US debut album Believe.

Ryan Tedder Blogs About Breaking Into Music Biz

OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder is no stranger to the difficult process of making it in the music business. The singer/songwriter/musician/producer recently blogged about his personal journey in the industry and shared many of the obstacles he’s faced along with the tricks he’s pulled along the way.

"I would call the complaint hotline phone #’s on the websites of record labels," Tedder explains. "When the ‘complaint department’ would answer I would say ‘I’m sorry, I must have been mis-connected to you, I was being connected to the human resources department. They would then reconnect me to the actual human resources department (who’s #’s weren’t ever listed) and I would tell the receptionist I was returning a call from the head of the department... Eventually Dreamworks (Universal music) hired me (for free) to come work in their Nashville publishing department.”

Nearly ten years later, after landing that summer internship, Tedder is just wrapping up an international tour with OneRepublic in support of their sophomore release, Waking Up.
Read the rest of the blog to find out more about Tedder’s story, and be sure to pick up the highly-acclaimed Waking Up on iTunes today.

All American Rejects New Music News

After closing out 2009 with their hit single “Gives You Hell” as the #1 most played song of the year, The All-American Rejects kick off 2010 with a brand new song for “Almost Alice,” the soon to be released CD from Buena Vista Records is inspired by the upcoming Disney Digital 3D film, ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

ALMOST ALICE, a collection of original songs based on some of the most charismatic characters in literary history, acts as a companion piece to the film’s score composed by Danny Elfman for the original motion picture soundtrack and will hit shelves March 2, 2010.

The Rejects’ new song, “The Poison,” is a cheeky take on Alice and her Mad Hatter. “Being a self-proclaimed Mad Hatter, this is a song about how prissy little Alice can be poison for us all. It was best for us both that she fell down that hole,” joked The All-American Rejects front man Tyson Ritter.

A handful of acclaimed music journalists attended an exclusive listening event The Sony Club in NYC, where they got to hear a sneak preview of Sade's HIGHLY anticipated studio album 'Soldier of Love'. See what some of the writers had to say:

"A diverse collection of tracks threaded together by Adu's mysteriously engaging vocals and the group's relaxed compositions." - Steven Horowitz, AOL Music's TheBoomBox.com

"The Nigerian beauty can do no wrong, but doesn’t just rely on her legacy when releasing music. It’s clear she delivers her sound with love. I predict this album will be a huge success for Sade." - Clay Cane, BET
Full Article HERE

"And after ten years of relative quiet, Sade hasn’t compromised the sound that’s continued to draw worldwide audiences back to the band. Soldier of Love actually picks up the pace of previous releases, adding heavy hip-hop drumbeats into the fold and incorporating bits of various genres like country and slick R&B, playing with conventions as the album segues from one unique track to the next." - ShowingOut.com

Joey Fatone & Wife Welcome Baby Girl

NSYNCer Joey Fatone and wife Kelly welcomed a new baby girl intot he family. Kloey Alexandra was born Monday evening in Orlando, FL, at 5 lbs., 8oz. The Dancing With the Stars album said, "She looks like a little doll. But she's healthy and doing just fine."
According to People:
Shortly after learning that she was expecting, Kelly began fighting chronic fatigue. "She was so tired, just exhausted all the time," Fatone says of his wife of five years. "We took her to the doctors, and they found blood clots in her lungs. It was life and death."

After a 12-day stay in the hospital - including two days in the ICU - doctors diagnosed Kelly with a rare genetic condition called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase.

In addition to threatening the mother's life, MTHFR increases the chances of the baby being born with chromosomal defects such as Down's Syndrome.

Joey, 32, says his wife took it easy throughout the pregnancy, but started experiencing a rapid heartbeat and fainting spells last week. Concerned for her health, doctors decided to induce Kelly's labor two weeks before her due date.

After an intense delivery, everyone is now able to relax. "The blood clots have broken up, Kelly's doing fine and Kloey is awesome," the proud papa tells PEOPLE.

Fatone says the name Kloey comes from a combination of his and Kelly's names. As for the middle name, Alexandra? It was selected by Briahna (who is 8 years old)for her new baby sister.

"I'm thrilled," Joey says. "I'm just so happy that everyone's healthy."

Nikki Sits Down With Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News

The new year is looking bright for 15-year-old singer Nikki Yanofsky, starting off with an interview with NBC's Nightly News and with her album expected in the late Spring. Candid and down-to-earth but with a voice that rivals legends like her idol, Ella Fitzgerald, Nikki is set to take the world by storm in 2010. Look for her US debut album later this year, which will feature covers of classic jazz, folk, and pop tunes as well as original material (including collaborations with famed songwriters Jesse Harris and Ron Sexsmith).

Katy Perry Covers Glamour Magazine

Katy Perry poses in a blue animal print party dress for the cover of Glamour's February 2010 issue.

On her hit song “I Kissed A Girl”: “I have a soft spot for women—I’m not afraid of it. Some women walk into the room, and they’re so beautiful and you’re like, ‘I wanna smell you,’ you know? I have certain girlfriends who I just think are the most angelic, beautiful creatures. And if any of my boyfriends ever fail me, I’ll turn to them!”

On her boo, British comedian Russell Brand: “When he was filming Get Him to the Greek, I did a cameo with him. My scene called for me to make out with him. And on the way down the stairs after the scene, I was hopping like a bunny. I hope like a bunny when I’m happy—I get a bit childlike.”

On feeling vulnerable: “I have always been this character, but I kind of cartoon-ized myself a little bit [in my stage persona]. So when someone really likes me, it’s like here comes a person! I wonder if you can handle this.”

You can get a copy of Katy's issue on Jan. 12. Look for Katy's new single with Timbaland "If We Ever Meet Again".

Miley Cyrus Covers Harper's Bazaar

Miley Cyrus looks pretty (almost didn't recognize her) on the February 2010 cover of Harper's Bazaar. The 17 year old Disney queen spoke about her controversial Vanity Fair photoshoot, the pressure of being in the spotlight, and leaving L.A. to film her new movie, The Last Song.

On the Vanity Fair photo of herself being wrapped in a bed sheet: “Here, my parents are thinking they’re seeing a beautiful photograph by a major photographer, and the people of America want to see something dirty in that? It doesn’t make sense to us because [my family] doesn’t look for negativity. But people don’t want to say ‘What a great performance’ or ‘What a great shot.” No one wants to look at something like that and see the positive because it doesn’t sell a magazine.”

On the pressures of being in the spotlight 24/7: “My job is to be a role model, and that’s what I want to do, but my job isn’t to be a parent. My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

On leaving LA this summer to film her new movie, The Last Song: “I got on the plane [to Georgia], and I was lying in my mom’s lap and crying and saying, “I’m so happy to be getting out of L.A. [In Tybee, GA] I went out every night with my friends. I did karaoke. I danced. All this stuff would’ve been such a big deal in Los Angeles: Who’s she with? Why is she dancing? I felt so alive and real. It’s so much easier to know who you are when there aren’t a thousand people telling you who they think you are. I felt like I was really figuring myself out. Usually I have someone whispering in my ear, but I was on my own.” (Miley is dating Liam Hemsworth, her co-star in The Last Song.)

On having insecurities despite all the people who praise her: “I used to ask everyone all day, ‘Do I look pretty?’ I probably asked that question about as many times as I blink.” But in Georgia she finally got over it. “It’s not about how because I started feeling beautiful; it’s just because I was comfortable. I was so used to the paparazzi and the cameras and the ‘What are you wearing?’ and having people stare at me.”

Grab your copy of the issue on stands January 12th.

New Albums of 2010

Who is schedule to drop albums this year? Rap-Up.com did a list of 10 Most Anticipated Albums of 2010. I picked a few out of their list to inform you all about.

Usher – Raymond vs. Raymond
Usher is back to claim his throne with his first album since 2008’s Here I Stand. Audiophiles have been able to sample the R&B crooner’s sixth album with the leak of several tracks including “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” “In My Bag,” “Little Freak,” and the buzz single “Papers,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Songwriter Rico Love has already called the album “classic” and Ester Dean compared it to the biggest success of his career, 2004’s multi-platinum Confessions.

The-Dream – Love King
The man with the Midas touch’s sophomore album Love vs. Money landed on many critics’ best of 2009 lists and he assaulted the charts once again by penning hits for BeyoncĂ© and Rihanna. Yet The-Dream still hasn’t received his props as an artist. Will the Radio Killa, who wed Christina Milian last year, be able to change that with his third album, Love King?

Lupe Fiasco – Lasers
It wasn’t too long ago that Lupe Fiasco told Rap-Up.com, “I just don’t really feel like rapping anymore.” But thankfully the Grammy winner has changed his mind. Last year he fed our appetites with his mixtape Enemy of the State: A Love Story and leaked songs “Shining Down” and “I’m Beaming.” Now hip-hop heads eagerly await the Chicago MC’s first album in over two years, Lasers (Love Always Shines Every time Remember 2 Smile).

Erykah Badu – New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh
Ms. Badu picks up where she left off on 2008’s stellar New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War with New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh, due February 23. The soul sister enlists The Roots’ ?uestlove (“Window Seat”) and samples Biggie (“Get Money”) on her fifth studio album, which features contributions from James Poyser, 9th Wonder, Sa-Ra, and Madlib.

Ciara – Untitled
Although her latest album Fantasy Ride was recently released in May, Ciara is already in the final stages of recording her fourth as-yet-untitled LP. Hitmaking duo Tricky Stewart and The-Dream take up executive-producing duties this time around. While she has remained mum about details, Tricky hinted at the project’s direction. “It’s just her returning back to her strongest form,” he told Rap-Up.com. “It’s gonna be Ciara at her best. It’s gonna be indicative of how much people love that first album [Goodies] and how people love ‘Promise’ and other records when she’s had those really serious connections.” Tracks include “Gifted” and “Speechless” featuring The-Dream.

Lenny Kravitz Addresses Leaked MJ Song

This past weekend a 90 second clip of a collaboration with Lenny Kravitz and Michael Jackson found its way to the internet. The leaked track, "Another Day," is an unreleased version of Lenny's 2004 single "Storm" featuring Jay-Z. In a video Lenny posted he said, “I just want to reach out to you so I can set the record straight regarding the Michael Jackson track ‘Another Day,’” he said. “A part of the song leaked, not by me, because mine has been locked up in a vault since we recorded it.”

He went on to explain how the record came to be. “This song was recorded by Michael and myself. I produced it for him, I wrote the song, and I played all the instruments on the track. It was one of the most amazing musical experiences that I’ve had.”

Lets hope we can hear the record in it's entirety soon. Check out the video below to hear the song.
